Yeast Takes Over

Why Are So Many People So Sick?

The American way of life has brought so many people to places in their lives that they are dependant upon prescription drugs, feel sick and tired all the time, are battling irritating yeast infections, and many are not able to function at a level that they feel is normal for their age and lifestyle.

The work of Victoria Smith, BS.HT is dedicated to all of the people who are looking for answers, looking for wellness, yet have been eluded of the gift of health. There are three most common reasons for unexplained symptoms: Candida yeast fungal overgrowth, heavy viral load and immune dysfunction. Frequently, all three of these are occurring in the body simultaneously.

Little, bitty yeast cells have the ability to disrupt normal bodily functions, to the point of completely disrupting a normal lifestyle. Yeasts are single cell living fungus organisms, that are neither animal nor vegetable, which live on the surface of all living things, and they are basically harmless. One family of yeast, Candida albicans, normally lives on the inner warm creases and crevices of your digestive tract and in the vagina (of women).

In its natural state, the good bacteria, called micro flora, greatly overpopulate Candida albicans in the digestive system. One of the things that has a seriously negative effect on the colon are prescription anti-biotic's. When antibiotics are taken to fight bacterial infections, they do not discriminate, and also aggressively kill much needed micro flora as well as the targeted bacterial infections. Other factors can contribute to a yeast overgrowth, such as a diet high in sugar, stress, excessive alcohol consumption, heavy metal toxicity, to name a few, and other things that disrupt the slightly acidic pH level of the colon. When the micro flora population is diminished, Candida albicans yeast cells over strengthen, and become quite aggressive, multiplying uncontrollably. They begin to take over and wreck havoc on our health. The symptoms can be as mild as indigestion to as severe as schizophrenia or autism. The ever famous and wise Dr. Bernard Jensen has been quoted to say that "virtually every illness is rooted in the colon."

Candida manages to hide, sometimes for years, in parts of the body, such as in our joints and the deep folds of the intestines, evading traditional treatment. Candida thrives on foods that are a large part of the typical American diet, which negatively alters the intestinal pH. Antibiotics, steroids, trauma, stress, oral contraceptives, and poor diet are some of the common triggers for the onset of debilitating symptoms. Candida is easily transmitted from person to person in a family. Mothers pass it to their children through the birth canal and through breast feeding. Lovers transmit it through intimate relations.

Candida albicans can become quite aggressive, and attach itself to the intestinal walls, morphing into a fungal form. Once the Candida attaches itself to the intestinal walls, it begins to grow long legs, called rhizoid, which actually drill holes in the colon. When the boundary between the intestinal tract and the circulatory system is broken, Leaky Gut is sometimes diagnosed. Undigested food and toxins, including toxins produced by Candida albicans itself, enter the bloodstream, overburdening the immune system. Sometimes this fungal yeast, once it escapes the intestinal tract, can travel through the bloodstream and settle in pocket areas throughout the body; thereby becoming a systemic.

Candida albicans yeast infection. Candida albicans yeast overgrowth can also be caused by other factors, such as hormonal changes associated with normal menstrual cycles, birth control pills, pregnancy, steroids, genital irritations and abrasions, sexual transmission and diabetes.

Once the body is in this unnatural, out of balance state, the liver struggles to cleanse the blood, the adrenal glands excrete excess hormones to keep us moving, our lymph glands can become overburdened, our immune system fights against the infection 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and our entire bodies become out of balance. Each individual has unique 'weaknesses' and these seem to be the area which is most affected. If the Candida albicans colonizes in the mouth and throat it is called thrush. If it settles in the sinuses you have a sinus infection, in the ears, an ear infection, the vagina - a vaginal yeast infection, the skin - skin fungus, jock itch, athlete's feet, toenail fungus, rashes, even eczema can be caused by Candida albicans yeast overgrowth. For some it affects sensitive brain chemical balance, others experience bowel disruptions, while even others experience entirely different symptoms. Fatigue, headaches, depression, PMS, irritability, feeling 'sick all over,' and other symptoms all are frequently yeast connected.

A common spelling of disease in the holistic world is dis-ease. Out of ease, without ease, or rather out of balance. Alternative medicine is on the rise, and its focus is on removing the causes of dis-ease's and illness, thereby allowing the body to activate its powerful, natural healing abilities. This method of approaching ones health is becoming referred to as the "Wellness Industry."

Of course, on the polar opposite is the "Sickness Industry." Interestingly, Candida albicans or Candidiasis has long been recognized in the holistic health world as a very serious imbalance. It is necessary to treat the cause of symptoms, thereby allowing the body to come back into balance. When the body is in balance, symptoms and discomforts disappear. Whereas what we call 'traditional medicine' often times refuses to acknowledge the existence of Candida albicans overgrowth, and merely treat symptoms; although, more and more frequently, doctors are testing for and identifying a Candida overgrowth.

Over and over again, it is said that diet, anti-fungal drugs and herbs repeatedly fail to get rid of thrush, vaginal or other types of Candida albicans yeast infections for good. Antifungal herbs and drugs can kill some of the Candida albicans, but Candida albicans that survives by 'hiding' in folds of the intestines and cells of the body, can overgrow again and re-infect the body, especially if the intestinal environment has not been improved.

A total approach to a very serious condition is imperative, so that a complete and permanent removal of Candida albicans from the blood, tissues, internal organs and digestive system takes place. Remove an overgrowth, replenish the microflora, flush toxins, heavy metals, virus and bacterial loads and improve cellular health (which enhances immune function).

Once a Candida albicans overgrowth is under control, the intestines are able to begin to heal, preventing toxins from leaking into the gut and bloodstream. The liver is the largest organ inside your body, and the lymphatic system both work to cleanse the blood, and is more effective, once overburden is removed. The kidneys and skin excrete toxins from your blood, and when the elimination systems are overloaded from out of control yeast, once the yeast is treated, these systems cannot excrete the toxins fast enough. It is not uncommon to experience skin rashes, itching, acne and other welcomed 'healing symptoms,' during Candida treatment. So you see, healing is a journey and process, and as with any journey, a good guide is invaluable.
