Healing Detoxification BathsHave you heard of miraculous healing or spa bathing? You can recreate these healing experiences in the privacy of your own home. Our bodies absorb nutrients and push out toxins when we soak in a bath that has a large volume of nutrients, such as healing waters or the ocean. This can be profoundly effective in preventing illness and disease, slow down the aging process and heal the body.
While the body does not absorb water molecules, it does absorb other smaller molecules through a process called tonicity. This explains why swimming in a chlorinated pool dehydrates; the body absorbs the chlorine, displacing electrolytes, leaving the body dehydrated. On the other hand, for healing, you can soak in a solution that is abundant in electrolytes and other nutrients. Whatever is in the water is absorbed directly into the blood stream through the skin. By soaking in a bath saturated with magnesium (Epsom Salt) and Essential Minerals (Sea Salt), the body absorbs these nutrients, and releases less desirable things, such as toxic heavy metals into the water. For a more scientific explanation, read How It Works below please. Get your ingredients ready, and prepare to stay in the tub for up to 45 minutes. In the beginning, those first few times, you may feel a little woozy or light headed. If this happens, it is a clear sign that detoxification is indeed powerfully occurring. Just drain the tub and get out and next time you may not experience this or may be able to stay in longer. It is not uncommon for someone that is very toxic to stay in the tub for mere seconds initially. Bath Tub Recipe | Water at least 99 degrees Fahrenheit
4 cups Epsom Salts 4 cups Sea Salts 2 cups Baking Soda Foot Bath Recipe | Use pumice stone after soak to remove dead skin from feet! 1 cup Epsom Salts 1 cup Sea Salts 1/2 cup Baking Soda Additional Optional IngredientsEssential Oils
Essential oils are actually esters that are the essential essence of various plants. They have very concentrated healing properties, depending upon the plant. Use 20-40 drops in a bath or add 10 drops to 1/4 cup of topical body oil, such as castor oil, jojoba oil or olive oil, or even an organic lotion. Most oils can be applied directly to the skin, but some oils may cause a burning sensation. If an essential oil 'burns' the skin, simply apply olive or another nutritive oil on top of it to neutralize it. Garlic Garlic is a potent anti-microbial and can help to lower the pathogenic load of the body. You'll want to email Victoria and ask her for the Garlic Bath handout, because the information is too extensive to include here. Liquid Dulse Liquid dulse is a red algae, which is very rich in essential minerals. The body can absorb these minerals, elevating the nutritional status of the body and forcing out toxins. Use one tablespoon in a bath. Clay Clay, when used regularly can help to tone the skin as well as relax the mind. Clay is loaded with essential minerals and your body will absorb them through the skin, when soaking for at least 15 minutes. Combine 2 tablespoons of clay with one cup of apple cider vinegar in a cup and mix well. Then mix into your bath water and enjoy a rejuvenating soak. |
Topical Oil - After The BathCastor Oil
Once you are out of the tub, dry off, slather on some healing oil, to complete your spa time! Castor oil is known to move lymphatic fluid throughout the body, increasing detoxification and delivering nutrients. Apply topically after a healing bath, alone or in combination with essential oils and liquid dulse. A good recipe for topical application is 1/4 cup castor oil, 10 drops of tea tree essential oil and 1/2 teaspoon liquid dulse. Be sure to buy high quality Castor and Essential oils! |

How It Works
For the more scientifically minded, I want to explain Tonicity. Tonicity is a measure of the osmotic pressure gradient, as defined by the water potential of the two solutions, which are separated by a semi-permeable membrane (the skin). This is describing the response of cells that are immersed in an external solution. Like osmotic pressure, tonicity is influenced only by solutes that cannot cross the membrane, as only these exert an osmotic pressure.
A hypertonic solution is one having a larger concentration of a substance on the outside of the cell (thus a higher concentration of water inside the cell) than is found within the cells themselves. Solutes (such as magnesium or sodium) are able to freely cross the membrane, because the pressure creates equal concentrations on both sides of the semi-permeable membrane (skin). This is exactly why large concentrations of solutes are used in healing baths!

A Word About The Ingredients
Epsom Salts are magnesium sulfate. That is a molecule of magnesium, attached to a molecule of sulfur. Magnesium is needed in every cell of the body; and, virtually everyone is deficient in this essential nutrient. Magnesium relaxes muscles, reduces headaches and migraines, alleviates constipation, reduces muscle cramping and twitching, alleviates fatigue and so much more! You'll find Epsom Salts in the pharmacy section of your grocery or department store. Just buy the plain salts, with nothing added, store brand is fine.
Sea Salts are especially beneficial for the whole body, helping to replenish essential salts in the body. At the same time, a salt bath can benefit the skin as it acts as a cleanser and detoxifier. The very toxic, fatigued, those with eczema and who are seeking to be preventative in their wellness benefit. Morton is my favorite brand of sea salts, with NO ADDITIVES. You'll find 25-40 pound bags of salt in the plumbing department of most stores, intended for water softeners or swimming pools.
Baking Soda is extremely beneficial for those suffering from eczema, gout, rheumatism, pain and psoriasis. It helps to reduce acid in the system. If this is the first time that you have used soda bicarbonate in the bath, the water may turn grey. This is normal and not likely to happen again; as it is cleansing the skin of heavy metals that have accumulated.
